Is there anything better than homemade bread with melted butter? How about no-yeast, no-knead, dairy-free homemade bread with melted butter? This is the quick and easy recipe to beat all recipes when it comes to bread making. No bread maker is needed because it pops into and out of the oven in about an hour.
Bread is my biggest weakness, and this bread is light, sweet, and only has a few ingredients. I baked a few loaves to adjust the recipe to my taste and try out some variations to find what worked best, so I’ll be showering my family with baked bread because I can’t possibly eat nor freeze all of the loaves, even though I’d like to. It’s that good. Did I mention it’s low-fat and low-sodium, too? I halved the recipe because I was making a few test loaves, which is why my loaf is shorter than normal, but the full recipe will make a standard size loaf (depending on pan size, I used a 9 in. x 5 in.) and can be sliced thin for sandwiches.
I started with just a base of flour and the secret ingredient – 7UP soft drink. The soft drink takes the place of the yeast because the carbonation adds air to make this bread fluffy and soft. The taste was kind of bland, so I added a couple of tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon of salt to give it the flavor boost it needed. It turned out delicious! You can easily follow this guide to make a gluten-free dairy-free version.
The texture of this bread is much like that of any homemade bread. It’s soft and spongy enough that in the future, I’ll be making a few hoagie loaves for my favorite po’ boys. If you make this bread, and I hope you do, share your photos on social media and tag #southerncooked. I’d love to see your creations. Enjoy, friends!
